Building community, visibility, and opportunity for Black artists across Washtenaw County
The Sankofa | Washtenaw County Black Arts Association exists to support, connect, and uplift Black artists, educators, cultural workers, and creatives throughout Washtenaw County and surrounding communities. Through collaboration, community engagement, interdisciplinary arts programming, and shared resources, we aim to create accessible spaces where Black creativity, culture, and voices are seen, supported, and celebrated.
We are committed to building meaningful partnerships, expanding opportunities for youth and artists, and strengthening connections between art and community.

We envision a thriving and connected creative community where Black artists across disciplines have the visibility, support, resources, and space to grow freely and collaboratively. Through arts education, cultural programming, mentorship, and collective action, we strive to help create a more inclusive and accessible arts landscape for future generations throughout Washtenaw County and beyond.
